Renovating her first home, @aoife_walsh_x envisioned a bathroom that would perfectly suit her family's needs. By merging two awkward spaces, she transformed the area into a spacious, luxurious retreat—one she truly loves!

I decided that one of the first things to be done was the bathroom. The house had 2 bathrooms upstairs: a main family bathroom and an ensuite. Both bathrooms were minuscule and had a very claustrophobic feel to them. The ensuite in particular was a tiny size. You could only take one step inside the door and that was it. There was nowhere else to move. I decided to knock through an internal wall and combine the two bathrooms for a more spacious feel. I felt I wanted to have one good sized bathroom rather than two small ones where nothing worked. So my main reasoning was size and how it would work for my family."
"As I am moving into my new home with my daughter, I had always dreamt of having a ‘HER’ bathroom so I knew straight away, that the bathroom was going to have a strong feminine influence.
When choosing the style I wanted a mix of traditional and contemporary but most important, I wanted an elegant feel."
I started off by choosing the bath and went for the Widcombe Double Ended Roll Top Freestanding Bath. The bath is big feature in the room and I’ve always dreamed of a free standing bath where I could unwind with a book and some bubbles in the evenings. While as a busy Mum these evenings will be rare, they will be cherished.
I chose the Keswick Bath Shower mixer in brushed brass. Choosing a bath shower mixer was important to me as I have a toddler who is not a fan of the shower so this would make bath time really easy and convenient for family life.
Staying within the Keswick design, another luxury element of the bathroom is the Keswick Dual Function Exposed Shower System also in Brushed Brass. Originally there was a electric shower in place but as time passed I felt that it was taking away from the overall luxury feel in the bathroom I was aiming to create. With an extra bit of plumbing work and a new water tank I was able to install a shower system based on home hot water. This shower system has a rainfall shower head which is a total treat and I know I will have no problem hopping out of bed and into the shower in the mornings.
Keeping in line with the other fixtures, I went with the Keswick Basin Mixer in Brushed Brass for my sink basin mounted into a Widcombe 600 Freestanding Vanity Unit with a solid Carrara worktop. I choose this unit primarily for the storage option. I am all about storage and keeping rooms clutter free especially a bathroom where products can pile up. This will be perfect for storing away toilet roll, cleaning materials, soap and product backstock.
I always loved the look of a mosaic flooring so opted for mosaic Carrara marble tiles on my floor as another standout feature and I felt they complimented the Carrara worktop of my vanity unit so well.
Of course the final piece of the puzzle to create the ‘HER’ bathroom was a beautiful peach paint colour on the walls. I’m so thrilled with how everything came together. It’s something a little different and has such a feminine feel.
"I am so thrilled with the result. I think the bathroom is beautiful, elegant and that it really achieves my goal of a feminine space that feels luxurious and timeless. My home is not a new build, nor is it a huge home, it is simply a regular 3 bedroom semi detached house that many other people call home. But it’s what you do with the space you are given is what matters and you don’t require a huge space to create something beautiful. Most people live in a similar home to me and I hope I can give some inspiration to make bold choices, encourage people to tap into their interior design creativity and to update their bathrooms by creating something special for them and their family to enjoy."
"Yes I definitely ran into lots of bumps along the road of my bathroom renovation. This is my first time doing anything remotely like this so I was a complete novice going into it. Balancing life, work and motherhood also took its toll as sometimes a full house and bathroom renovation project can be hard to get around to after a long day. Anything labour related was a new frontier and my bathroom needed a lot of expertise. Between the manual knocking out of the wall, rewiring electrics and plumbing, expert tiling for mosaic marble, plastering, wall dado panelling and finally getting the room painted it turned into a long road which felt like it had no turn. I encountered additional water leaks and electrical faults in my home too that further delayed my renovation project as a whole but I learnt so much along the way and I am so thrilled I persevered with my vision and how everything ultimately turned out."
